- In addition to being the second part of its trilogy, this story serves as a follow-up to The Light Fantastic.
- Wesley Crusher mistakes Tom Paris for Nick Locarno. Paris states that he gets this a lot. This is an in-joke as both characters were played by Robert Duncan McNeill.
