Real world article
(written from a production point of view)
The Enterprise crew experience waking dreams of previous missions.
Background information[]
- This story is a sequel of sorts to Janice Rand's TOS Season 1 appearances.
- Although Rand is a chief petty officer in her next chronological canon appearance (Star Trek: The Motion Picture), she is mentioned here to have gained the rank of lieutenant due to her skill at secret intelligence missions. Perhaps her officer status was kept secret to maintain her effectiveness as a clandestine agent, a supposition that could explain why she was later shown to be a commander (Star Trek III: The Search for Spock) but again shown later as a master chief petty officer (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home), and finally as simultaneously being a lieutenant junior grade and lieutenant commander (during Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country and VOY: "Flashback").
- This issue was serialized in Star Trek Monthly issue 5, Star Trek Monthly issue 6, and Star Trek Monthly issue 7.
