The tidal force is a term in physics for describing the gravitational force of one body onto another, which varied based on the distance between the two bodies.

As the moon of Bre'el IV descended to the surface of Bre'el IV in 2366, Captain Jean-Luc Picard wanted to know from Doctor Garin if the moon would disintegrate prior to impact. Garin responded no, saying the moon had a ferrous crystalline structure and would be able to withstand the tidal forces. (TNG: "Deja Q")

In 3189, upon regaining consciousness from having time traveled through a wormhole, Sylvia Tilly expressed how her head felt like it was in a vice. To this, Jett Reno responded, "Tidal forces from the wormhole. Like g-forces but nastier. Must've knocked us all out." (DIS: "Far From Home")
