"I began to expound upon tidal effects
When you asked me to stop, looking somewhat perplexed."
Data, 2369 ("Schisms")

Tides are the rise of fall of sea levels, or occasionally liquids other than water, on a planet or moon due to the gravitational influence of other celestial bodies or of artificial gravity systems.

The planet Argo had strong tides. (TAS: "The Ambergris Element")

In 2366, the planet Bre'el IV experienced dangerously high tides due to a descending asteroidal moon. (TNG: "Deja Q")

In 2367, Data modeled that the moon Peliar Zel Beta would experience erratic tidal surges if no action were taken. (TNG: "The Host")

The planet Balosnee VI supposedly had a tidal harmony that could cause pleasant hallucinations. (DS9: "The Nagus")

The fifth moon of Mixtus III created tides on that planet that allowed for summer crops; it was destroyed in 2380, with artificial gravity systems the proposed solution for ensuring the tidal effects continued. (LD: "Cupid's Errant Arrow")

Tides were also used as a metaphor, for example by Gowron for the "tides of fortune", (DS9: "By Inferno's Light") or by Tam Elbrun for other people's emotions. (TNG: "Tin Man")

Note that "tidal waves" are not caused by tides, despite the colloquial name.
