Tortilla chips were significant to Star Trek fans in the real world as well. In 1993, specially marked packages of Doritos tortilla chips, such as "Texas Tang" and "Cool Ranch", promoted the Star Trek trading cards from SkyBox.
Other Frito-Lay participating brands included Hostess Potato Chips, Ruffles, and Cheetos. KFC and Mountain Dew also participated.
