The Torus 4 Deep Space Research Outpost or Torus 4 Outpost was a Starbase 1-type Federation outpost located in a turbulent region containing several celestial objects.
Mike and Gabrielle Burnham resided on this outpost with Section 31 in the early 2230s. Also with them was their daughter, Michael Burnham, who had bad dreams due to the isolation. To ease her fears and get her back to sleep, her father told her the story of "the girl who made the stars" as a bedtime story.
