A road with two traffic lanes
Traffic lanes or lanes were used on roads to keep traffic running smoothly and to minimize head-on collisions.
Lanes were often divided by yellow dash marks in the road. (VOY: "Future's End, Part II"; Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home; Star Trek Into Darkness; SNW: "Hegemony")
In Detroit in 2004, while driving a stolen Dodge Ram down a street, Jonathan Archer was determining whether he should be in the left lane or the right lane when he asked Loomis which side of the street the Burgerland fast food restaurant was located on. (ENT: "Carpenter Street")
In 2381, when Captain Carol Freeman told Chief engineer Andy Billups that Doctor T'Ana said he was a "*bleep* load of stress," he responded by saying: "The doc just needs to stay in her lane. I don’t go down to her sickbay and tell her how to hypo her sprays." (LD: "Room for Growth")
In the mirror universe, on April 5, 2063; the Terrans made first contact with a Vulcan survey ship. But as they exited the spacecraft, several natives of Bozeman, who were led by Zefram Cochrane; murdered the entire crew. This was considered a holy day in the Terran Empire.
In the year 3189 in the prime universe, this incident was mentioned by Kovich while he was interrogating the Terran and former Emperor Philippa Georgiou.
Her response to his statement was that "Vulcans need to learn to stay in their lane sometimes and it's not like it's a high holy day." (DIS: "Die Trying")
