A transwarp chamber was the section of a Borg vessel which housed the transwarp drive. Among the most important pieces of technology located in the chamber was the transwarp coil, the component responsible for the generation of transwarp conduits. Located deep within the ship, it was heavily shielded to prevent penetration by transporter beams.
In 2368, a Borg sphere crashed on a planet in the Delta Quadrant, with only four surviving drones. As the vessel's transwarp chamber was approaching critical pressure, threatening an explosion, the drones were forced to evacuate the area. (VOY: "Survival Instinct")
In 2375, the crew of the USS Voyager developed "Operation Fort Knox," a plan to steal a transwarp coil with which to shorten their journey back to the Alpha Quadrant. As transport directly inside the transwarp chamber was impossible, the boarding party was forced to beam into one of the adjacent sections. Ensign Harry Kim and Lieutenant Commander Tuvok subsequently made their way to the ship's primary shield generator, and used spatial charges to destroy it, allowing the Voyager crew to obtain a transporter lock on the coil and beam it away.
