USS Enterprise nurse Christine Chapel operates a Twist Handle Control in 2259.
"I am not that old."
The twist-handle control was a type of control mechanism used in Federation turbolifts during the mid-23rd century to interface with the onboard Spacecraft Operating & Management System (S/COMS). It required the user to twist and hold a handle in order to issue voice commands. Riders in the lift would then hold the handle for the duration of the ride.
These controls were phased out by the 2270s, in favor of more direct touch and voice input. However, due to a bit of neglect, the technology was still found on Starbase 80 in 2382, though not all Starfleet officers in the 24th century were familiar with it.
