Technical data[]
This shuttle was twelve meters in length, warp-capable, and utilized programmable matter and holographic control panels common to 32nd century Starfleet vessels. The interior could accommodate a pilot at the center-forward station, two supporting stations each on the port and starboard sides, as well as a central command chair, for a crew of six.
Additional standard systems included sensors and proximity scans, flight systems, long range communications, and life support systems, which produced electromagnetic signatures while functioning.
Defense systems included a cloaking device and protective shielding which could deploy over the shuttle's viewports to protect from an emergency landing. A crash landing would also activate the shuttle's emergency distress beacon on impact. (DIS: "All Is Possible", "Rubicon")

In 3190, several UFP-02-type shuttles were docked in the Federation Headquarters shuttlebay during and following Federation President Laira Rillak's address to the new Starfleet Academy class. (DIS: "Kobayashi Maru") The shuttlebay was again full of this class of shuttle when Doctor Kovich assigned Lieutenant Sylvia Tilly on a special mission aboard UFP-11 for Starfleet Academy. (DIS: "All Is Possible")
Thousands of shuttles of this class were used during the evacuation of Earth and Titan when the Dark Matter Anomaly began to threaten the planet. (DIS: "Coming Home")
