The USS Armstrong was a 24th century Federation starship operated by Starfleet.
During the brief Federation-Klingon War, the Armstrong and the USS Drake were ambushed by a Klingon battle group in early 2373 and both ships suffered heavy casualties before escaping to Deep Space 9. (DS9: "Apocalypse Rising")

The Armstrong was "named for Apollo 11 astronaut Neil Armstrong." (Star Trek Encyclopedia, 4th ed., vol. 1, p. 45)
The Star Trek Encyclopedia, 4th ed., vol. 2, p. 326 identified the Armstrong as a Challenger-class starship, with the registry NCC-57537.

According to the first two issues of the Malibu Comics Deep Space Nine comics "Stowaway" and "Stowaway, Part II", the ship was an Oberth-class scout ship with a registry of NCC-19212 under Captain Johnson (β). Dr. Josiah Wembley (β), a renowned Federation xenobiologist was a member of her crew on their most recent mission to the Gamma Quadrant in mid-2369.
