The USS Clarke (NCC-1661) was a Malachowski-class Federation starship operated by Starfleet during the mid-23rd century.
It was one of the first ships to arrive at the location where the battle against a Klingon fleet at the Battle of the Binary Stars took place in 2256. Captain Philippa Georgiou of the USS Shenzhou, later reported to Admiral Brett Anderson of the USS Europa that the Clarke was "down on our side." (DIS: "Battle at the Binary Stars")
A display of the Clarke was visible in the mess hall aboard the USS Discovery when Michael Burnham visited that area shortly after arriving aboard the Discovery six months after the battle. (DIS: "Context Is for Kings", et al.)
The origin of the ship's name is unknown, but a possibility is the 20th century science fiction author Arthur C. Clarke.
