In 2256, the Edison fought against a Klingon fleet at the Battle of the Binary Stars, where it was destroyed. (DIS: "Battle at the Binary Stars")
A display of the Edison was visible in the mess hall aboard the USS Discovery when Michael Burnham visited that area shortly after arriving aboard the Discovery six months after the battle. (DIS: "Context Is for Kings")
In 2401, the Edison-class honored the legacy of the previous Hoover-class USS Edison. (PIC: "Võx")

The ship might have been named after technology businessman Thomas Edison, or Starfleet Captain Balthazar M. Edison.

In 2019, Star Trek Online introduced the Edison class, a 25th century cosmetic skin and in-universe successor to the Hoover class, [2] named in honor of the Hoover-class USS Edison. This Edison class would become canonical in 2023's PIC: "Võx".
