Revision as of 13:22, 16 July 2019

The USS Farragut was a 24th century Federation Excelsior-class starship operated by Starfleet that was regularly stationed at Deep Space 9.

History

The Farragut, along with the USS Defiant and USS Yeager, were stationed there in late 2373. (DS9: "Blaze of Glory")

These same ships, as well as a Nebula-class starship, were stationed at or near Deep Space 9 following Operation Return in 2374. (DS9: "Sacrifice of Angels")

The Farragut, Defiant, and Yeager were again, all stationed at Deep Space 9 in late 2374. (DS9: "Resurrection", "One Little Ship")

It returned to DS9 early one morning in 2375, carrying the supposed "Admiral" Patrick and "his staff", Jack and Lauren, all of whom were in fact genetically-engineered savants, who had traveled there from "the Institute" to see Doctor Julian Bashir. (DS9: "Chrysalis")

Still that year it visited five more times. (DS9: "Once More Unto the Breach", "Field of Fire", "Chimera", "Badda-Bing, Badda-Bang") During one of those visits, it was the transport that Nog arrived aboard following his rehabilitation on Starbase 235. (DS9: "It's Only a Paper Moon")

Appendices

Background information

This Farragut was identified in dialogue in "Chrysalis" – specifically, "Admiral Patrick and his staff just arrived on the Farragut" – in scenes immediately preceding the script note that pointedly indicated that there is "A Starship docked at a pylon." According to the first draft of the script, this was the USS Saratoga.

This observation was also confirmed by the Star Trek Encyclopedia (4th ed., vol. 1, p. 262); furthermore, the authors speculated that this Farragut was an older ship which was retired, then re-commissioned after the destruction of the Nebula-class USS Farragut.

All additional appearances, outside of "Chrysalis", are based on the use of stock footage.

Apocrypha

The novelization of "What You Leave Behind" stated that the Farragut was the personal flagship of Vice Admiral William Ross during the Battle of Cardassia.

The Starships RPG sourcebook gives this ship's registry as NCC-2582.
