He was ordered by Durango to move the Merced in closer to the ancient generation ship they were towing. Prior to acknowledging the order, he informed Durango that he believed the Cerritos was "in a better position...", but before he was reminded that the Merced was in charge of the mission, and that their towing position should reflect that.
After complying, a portion of the generation ship's hull broke loose and the Merced was overtaken by the terraforming emulsion that had been drawn in by the ship's tractor beam. As the ship was about to be consumed, he was safely beamed off the bridge into the stasis chamber aboard the generation ship. (LD: "Moist Vessel")

While scanning the mummified occupants, a drop of terraforming emulsion fell onto her tricorder, which caused it to mutate, during which time she dropped it and stepped back.
She was later present on the bridge, and told Durango that all readings were "normal" and that transport was "going smoothly", after he inquired if there were any vibrations in the hull.
She was saved when he was beamed into the stasis chamber aboard the generation ship after the Merced was overtaken by the mutations caused by the terraforming emulsion that had consumed the ship. (LD: "Moist Vessel")
