The USS Oberth (NCC-602) was the prototype of the Oberth-class of Federation starship in service during the late 23rd century.
In 2293, the Oberth was assigned to a deep-space exploration mission at the time of the proposal for Operation Retrieve. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country)
- Named after Hermann Oberth, a German 20th century space travel enthusiast and author of the book "Die Rakete zu den Planetenräumen".
