History[]

In 2365, Captain Gregory Benson was the commanding officer of this ship. In this year, this ship was assigned a deep space exploration mission in Sector 632. The ship was listed on the Starship Deploy Status chart that was on display in the courtroom of Starbase 173. (TNG: "The Measure Of A Man", okudagram)

In 2369, while under the mind control of interrogators on the planet Tilonus IV, Commander William T. Riker believed that he met a woman named "Commander Bloom," who was first officer of the Yorktown, at the Tilonus Institute for Mental Disorders. (TNG: "Frame of Mind")

In 2370, Captain H. Zimmerman was the commanding officer of this ship. After departing from Theta Omicron IV, the starship arrived at Deep Space 9 on stardate 47550.1. The Yorktown was listed on the space station's arrival roster. (DS9: "Whispers", display graphic)

In an alternate future, the Yorktown was assigned near the border with the Romulan Star Empire. Admiral William T. Riker informed retired Ambassador Jean-Luc Picard that he would have the Yorktown run some long range sensor scans in the Devron system. (TNG: "All Good Things...")

The Star Trek Encyclopedia, 4th ed., vol. 2, p. 509 classified the Yorktown as a Zodiac-class (β) starship, with registry number NCC-61137.

The USS Yorktown was the name of the central starship in Gene Roddenberry's first Star Trek proposal to NBC in 1964. The ship was named after the USS Yorktown, a World War II American aircraft carrier.

According to the 1994 Malibu Comics Star Trek: Deep Space Nine issue #6, the Yorktown participated in the Battle of Wolf 359 in 2367.
