The United States Army was the land-based branch of the United States military.
History[]
During the 19th century, in the period of the American Civil War, the Army was known as the Union Army. After Captain Jonathan Archer of the Enterprise NX-01 had restored a damaged timeline in 1944/2154, a scene from the American Civil War could be seen in the time stream as the timeline realigned itself; the scene showed Confederate Army cavalry attacking a Union artillery position during an otherwise unidentified engagement. (ENT: "Storm Front, Part II") In 2267, Captain James T. Kirk and his landing party from the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 saw images of an attacking Union Army infantry from the same war, also from an otherwise unidentified engagement, via the Guardian of Forever. (TOS: "The City on the Edge of Forever")
The Union Army utilized observation balloons that were tendered at around six hundred feet high. (TOS: "The Savage Curtain")
William T. Riker's ancestor, Thaddius Riker, was a colonel in the Union Army during the Battle of Pine Mountain in the Civil War, part of Sherman's March on Atlanta. (VOY: "Death Wish")
By 1893 an Army base existed in the middle of the Presidio in San Francisco. (TNG: "Time's Arrow, Part II")
During World War I, the U.S. Army operated Renault FT tanks when it was deployed in France, which was also witnessed by Captain Archer when he watched the time stream resetting, after he and his crew had managed to restore it. (ENT: "Storm Front, Part II")
A holoprogram set in 1941 San Francisco included an Uncle Sam recruitment poster for the U.S. Army. (TNG: "The Big Goodbye")
The United States Army was deployed on several fronts when the Allies invaded Nazi-occupied France during World War II. (VOY: "The Killing Game", "The Killing Game, Part II")
