The rank system of the United States military provided a hierarchy and chain of command for individuals serving the branches of the United States of America's military, including the Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, and Navy.

Army ranks[]

The United States Army, which at points included the Army Air Forces displayed rank on the lapels of their uniform. (DS9: "Little Green Men")

On the planet Miri, whose development closely followed that on Earth, Jahn wore a military jacket with a master sergeant patch. (TOS: "Miri")

During the Q Civil War, which was made to be perceived as the American Civil War, the Q and members of the USS Voyager dressed as Union Army infantry soldiers, complete with uniform and insignia. Of note, Q wore the rank of insignia of a captain, Tom Paris wore a sergeant rank insignia, and Harry Kim work a corporal rank insignia. (VOY: "The Q and the Grey")
