Great work on the articles surroundig Crusher, and the article itself! My compliments to your wisdom. -- Redge | Talk 11:18, 21 Aug 2004 (CEST)

Thanks for the compliment! Glad you enjoyed it! -- SmokeDetector47 15:21, 21 Aug 2004 (CEST)
I also enjoyed your article on Sickbay. You have a really extensive knowledge of the medical aspect of Star Trek. -- Redge | Talk 14:09, 22 Aug 2004 (CEST)
...and great images too! You took those from the interative TNG manual? Ottens 14:54, 22 Aug 2004 (CEST)
Yep, they're from the TNG Manual. If you have any requests, just let me know and I'll see what I can manage. The bridge, ready room, conference lounge, engineering, sickbay, transporter room, Ten-Forward, Picard's quaters, Troi's quarters, Worf's quarters, Data's quarters, and a Type-6 shuttle interior are available, as are close ups of many of the displays and equipment located therein. I also have VR of the original Enterprise, Enterprise-E, Voyager, Defiant, and Klingon BOP bridges. The images can be as big as 800px across, but I didn't want to hog bandwidth. :) -- SmokeDetector47 21:27, 22 Aug 2004 (CEST)
Thanks, Redge. Glad I can contribute. Although I consider that a WIP... I hope others can fill in more details, especially about TOS, which I virtually ignored. -- SmokeDetector47 21:27, 22 Aug 2004 (CEST)

I have added to you to the nominations for admins Memory Alpha:Nominations for administratorship. Feel free to accept or decline! -- Dmsdbo 15:54, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Thank you for the nomination; it is very much appreciated! I have accepted it. -- SmokeDetector47 // talk 21:55, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hi, SmokeDetector47. I just granted you administrator privileges after the successful nomination on Memory Alpha:Nominations for administratorship. Congratulations, and don't hesitate to ask if you have any question regarding your new tasks and rights... ;) -- Cid Highwind 16:01, 12 May 2005 (UTC)

Mike Sussman

Sorry about the PM issue. My PMs at the TrekBBS were supposed to be turned on, but the feature doesn't seem to be working. I have fewer than 100 posts on their BBS, which is required for PMing, but I was told they would waive the requirement (being a producer on the show and all). Anyway, I guess they must've changed their mind, because I can't send or receive PMs at the moment. I've written their administrators about this -- hopefully they'll turn it back on and I'll send you a message. Thanks for your patience. --Mike Sussman - VOY/ENT Writer-Producer 00:37, 22 May 2005 (UTC)

Not a problem... I've had the same problem with their personal message system, and I'm no one important. I can't understand why they implemented that restriction. Thanks again for signing up; I look forward to your contributions! -- SmokeDetector47 // talk 00:53, 22 May 2005 (UTC)

Blocking Vandal

Thanks for blocking that low-life schmuck who vandalized all those articles. But isn't there a way to permanately block all IP addresses beginning with "195.93.21" to ensure that the guy doesn't do this again? --Shran 07:32, 15 Jul 2005 (UTC)

No problem... I felt bad after you, THOR, AJHalliwell, AmdrBoltz, and a few anonymous people spent all that time cleaning up the droppings. I tried to block everything with 195.93.21.x, but the wiki software only seems to allow specific usernames to be blocked, and treats an individual IP as a specific username. If anyone knows a way to block a series of IPs at once, I'd appreciate it if you could let me know. Furthermore, the IP seems to have been tied to AOL and I'd rather not mess around with any permanent blocks; I'm worried that I've already inconvenienced some innocent folks. Hopefully the next day or so will be enough time for this guy to become distracted with something else. -- SmokeDetector47 // talk 19:38, 15 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Uhm, after reading through the manual in meta.wikipedia I think that your way was the not-elegant way, but basicly the one that works in time, because while an admin reads that description the vandal could have vandalised another 100 pages ... -- Kobi - (Talk) 19:56, 15 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for the link! Although seeing Do not use range blocks unless you are really confident you know what you are doing. in huge bold letters scared me... ;) -- SmokeDetector47 // talk 21:42, 15 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for giving me that info on my user page, I'll put it to good use.Gul Reid 16:48, 17 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Dead link

Could you take the people you did deleted off the wanted pages?

  • Unfortunately, it is not possible to do this at the current moment. I suggest you visit the talk pages of the users in question to request that they create a user page, rather than creating them yourself. -- SmokeDetector47 // talk 02:26, 21 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Ten Forward says forward (is that a pun) this to one of the administrators so here you go.

A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was: SELECT cur_id, cur_namespace, cur_title, cur_text FROM `cur`,`searchindex` WHERE cur_id=si_page AND ( (MATCH (si_title) AGAINST ('Memory')) AND (MATCH (si_title) AGAINST ('Alpha')) NOT ) AND cur_namespace IN (0) LIMIT 0,20 from within function "". MySQL returned error "1064: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ') AND cur_namespace IN (0) LIMIT 0,20' at line 1 (".

It came from the search page.

Our vandal friend is back and left us a message at "A general announcement to all admins". --Alan del Beccio 21:01, 27 Aug 2005 (UTC)

  • Oh, that's adorable. :) Batten down the hatches... -- SmokeDetector47 21:23, 27 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Should 222.'s actress > actor's be reverted? It seems we've been using actress for some time, and if so would our policies warrent a warning? - AJHalliwell 19:09, 28 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Shouldn't we be using actor in the first place? They had slavery for some time, but they got rid of it eventually. Actually that's a bad example but you know what I mean.

Actor > Actress

Since a consensus was pretty much reached on Memory Alpha:Ten Forward that the term "actor" should not replace "actress", can the performer article edits by be reverted now? --From Andoria with Love 03:14, 29 Aug 2005 (UTC)

As I said over there, I think it's a personal matter about whether one wants to use "actor" as a generic term or use "actress" as descriptive and shouldn't need anyone else's approval... if you want to go ahead and begin reverting, that's your prerogative. :) If any users seriously object, we can just put it to a formal vote vis-à-vis Votes for deletion. -- SmokeDetector47 03:33, 29 Aug 2005 (UTC)
Nah, Alan has already done it for me. ;) But I do agree with you, though. --From Andoria with Love 04:17, 29 Aug 2005 (UTC)

POV input

(I'm sending the same text to all the admins that are currently active, so I apologize for cut and paste):

I've been having a conversation with a new user on (my talk page regarding how to write an article on M/A in the proper point of view, that is from within the Trek universe (in the case of objects, people, places, ships, etc) rather than from the outside looking in.

My understanding of this website, from day one, has been that it is the internet version of the Star Trek Encyclopedia, and have never had any difficulty understanding it any other way. This user thinks otherwise. I'm to the point in the conversation, and I'm surprised no other admins have thrown their hats into the ring yet, that I would like to ask for a little assistance, as I believe we shouldn't have to have any "policy" (per se) on such a straight forward and frankly "common sense" issue, either by starting a separate talk page or to Ten Forward. Whichever the case, and no matter how many articles we have written in the point of view which I am defending (that being roughly 10000) this user does not seem to understand, and we do not seem to have any page (aside from a subpage Cid had in his archive that I found) that I could use as an example (btw, the user in question more or less snubbed off Cids page anyway). So please, anyone else willing to assist would be much appreciated. I can't seem to better defend a point, a method and a style that is so "ingrained" into my brain/our brains as "normal" any other way than I have, as being right, without getting out a big stick -- and thus far this user has been an exception, as I have had experiences with countless other newbies and they seems to catch on to our style, well except one other, rather quickly.

Anyway, I should also note, that I am aware of this users attitude and previous conflicts with adminstrators from other message boards (from my old Starship Modding days) and am somewhat in a position of a conflict of interest -- because frankly I believe this individual would rather go out in a blaze of glory than work our well established conformity.

If you need an example of the work in question, just compare the perspectives of the original contributions of the user to the draft rewrites I made in the respective histories. Thanks so much! --Alan del Beccio 18:50, 27 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Your Website

Hi there. I just noticed you haven't updated your website in quite a while, and that the banners of are still up there. Unfortunately, Delta, who owned, has been gone for months now, and I don't think he'll return. Thus you can remove the banners of and if you'd like. It just seems a little awkward now to have banners up that lead no where... ;-) Ottens 11:28, 16 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Linking wiki text

(New to wiki) Is there any way to "link text"? ie, have an episode list in TNG list the corresponding summary with the episode title, for the purpose of browsing the episodes a little easier?

For example, the episode could have a short episode summary wrapped with markup somehow (<summary> or something) and have an episode listing include that text in the listing, updating if the original short summary in the core article changes?

And another note, has there been any name collisions between episode titles of the various Series? And in an attempt to head that off before it happens, might I suggest that episode titles get prefixed with the series code? ie, VOY:Scorpion Part I and VOY:Scorpion Part II.

William T. Riker

Thanks for getting that, I gave the {{edithint-test}} but the phone rang before I hit submit when reverting the edit. Wouldn't have happened if his page wasn't so darn long. :-P Weyoun 04:23, 27 Oct 2005 (UTC)

re: Image replacement

which images are you referring to specifically? i cannot remember consciously uploading an image that is contrary to its file name.

edit: upon reviewing some of the reversions you made, i see no reason for the revision of File:Galaxy class - stardrive section.jpg as it is a near duplicate of File:Galaxy class deflector shield.jpg. i can see no real reason to oject to a different angle of essentially the same thing...and a much clearer shot to boot. just my take though. Thomas Riker replacing Will?

Hi there. A long time ago (back in January 2005), you expanded the William T. Riker article to include the comment: Some TNG writing staff toyed with the idea of killing off Will Riker in this episode, replacing him by Tom Riker, moving Data to first officer position and Tom as the new ops officer.

I have been working on the Thomas Riker article and would like to include this information there if it is accurate, but I cannot find a legit source to back this claim up. I was hoping that you could provide information on where you obtained that info. I added a citation request to the William T. Riker page as well – if no source can be provided, it would be best to remove this comment from the Will Riker page. Hope you can help! -Humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa 16:01, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Looking for input regarding video-wikis on Memory Alpha

Hi, As you may have heard, in the next few days there will be a new collaborative video feature on Memory Alpha. The feature is based on technology created by Kaltura, where I work. We’re really excited to have our technology on Memory Alpha and are hoping that it can be a great tool for the Memory Alpha community. I am contacting you and a few other administrators hoping that you can tell me where you think collaborative videos might fit in within Memory Alpha. We have a few people that are great with rich-media, and that are active in the community and would like to get a few videos rolling as soon as the feature goes live. For example – what pages do you think could benefit from a collaborative video that any user can add, edit and remix? Are there 5-10 top pages/topics that you think could be cool to add videos to? Any specific ideas of the kind of videos the community would like? Maybe a tribute to a certain character, or possibly a video that talks about why people joined Memory Alpha, etc. Any input you could provide would be excellent, we’re hoping that the Memory Alpha community gets familiar with the collaborative video feature and enjoys it. Thank you! Lishkee 14:22, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

Galoob/Micro Machines Trivia

I noticed you did some of the revisions on the Galoob page. I'm trying to figure out who put in the trivia comment about the micro machines being part of Tom and B'Ellanna's mobile in Prophecy. I don't think the mobile was made from micro machines, but rather from the hallmark ornaments. I added something to the Galoob talk page and haven't gotten any responses. Anyway, as best I can tell the trivia was added during one of your edits, so I was wondering if you had support for it one way or another. Thanks --twilder

Riker's birth stardate of 12286.5

I noticed you added Riker's birth stardate of 12286.5 on January 2, 2005 at 16:01, but I'm suspecting it isn't actually canon, but rather reverse-engineered using the simplified assumption that 1000 units = 1 year. Could you please tell us your source on the Riker discussion page? Thanks.– NotOfTheBody 20:03, December 20, 2009 (UTC)
