Box office drop

Did you ever find out why there was a loss of overseas box office for Star Trek, as that seems more like a reporting error than a correction. - Archduk3 15:07, January 12, 2010 (UTC)

It seems to have been an error on UIP's part. UIP has a page tracking the film's international box office here and they had the film at $128+ million, but then it went down. My best guess is that they accidentally attributed earnings from another film to Star Trek, or perhaps there was an error with their banking records. When they found their error, they corrected it. I think the current gross is correct, but I will e-mail the site and see if I can find out for sure what's going on. --From Andoria with Love 15:13, January 12, 2010 (UTC)
E-mail sent. :) Let's see what they say. --From Andoria with Love 15:22, January 12, 2010 (UTC)

Cool. It be nice to know either way. :) - Archduk3 15:25, January 12, 2010 (UTC)

Here's the response I got:
"The correct number is $127,764,536. This is after year end adjustments. A number of countries report flash box office numbers during the run and these are adjusted with confirmed final numbers."
And there you have it. The current number is accurate, the $128+ million number was the result of "flash box office numbers." How any numbers could be several hundred thousand dollars off target is beyond me, though. :-P --From Andoria with Love 00:13, January 14, 2010 (UTC)

It is a bit weird that the system has a margin of error that large, but oh well. It's nice to know that the numbers are correct eventually (and I'm just going to assume that the "flash" money really went to Project:Swordfish). Thanks for checking. :) - Archduk3 00:21, January 14, 2010 (UTC)

Missing...presumed dead

Maybe your news alert should be a notice header rather than part of the news. — Morder (talk) 20:49, February 22, 2010 (UTC)

I considered that, but the Haiti notice is already on the main page and I didn't feel it was right to replace that with a missing persons alert. I also didn't think adding a second notice would fly. If the community is willing to go for it, though, then I'm okay with it. However, Koenig is not yet presumed dead, at least not officially. --From Andoria with Love 21:46, February 22, 2010 (UTC)

I know...I'm presuming :) — Morder (talk) 21:53, February 22, 2010 (UTC)

I put the notice in a header box, not sure if that's going to fly, but at least it stands out a little more. We could just change the color a bit too. Just throwing ideas out there. - Archduk3 23:49, February 22, 2010 (UTC)
I think it looks fine the way it is. Between the bold font and the header box, I'm sure it'll grab enough attention. Having said that, we could try making it a notice header but still leave it in the news panel. But I think the way it is now is fine. The word has gotten out there already, it's being reported by most of the major news sites, so I don't think we need anything elaborate. --From Andoria with Love 23:59, February 22, 2010 (UTC)

That's a good point, and after I undid the merge I figured that's why you did it. I'm not 100% sure yet I will retire it, though. I'll think about it for a little while and talk it over with others and if the consensus is to retire it, then I'll go ahead and re-merge them with Italianajt's sub-page. What do you think, though, should it be retired? I still intend on creating new material for April Fools next year, and Fraggle Rock could make a return appearance, as well. After all, people actually expanded upon it this year, they may want to so again next year. Let me know what you think. :) --From Andoria with Love 18:07, April 2, 2010 (UTC)
Kill it. It would be a lot better if the "pranks" (and I use that term loosely) were more thought-out - and possibly even relevant to new material. The news story on the front page was a good direction but poorly executed. I only think that because it was clearly over the top. :) Anyway, kill it. — Morder (talk) 18:29, April 2, 2010 (UTC)
I would think it would be better to let the Muppets go, as much as it pains me to say that about any of Jim Henson's creations. Morder has a point, since the rumor mill should be in full swing by next year for the new movie, and I can think of several other ideas for "classic" Trek spoofs. :) - Archduk3 19:32, April 2, 2010 (UTC)

Once again, thank you to Arch, Shran and the other mods for letting me keep Fraggle Rock for posterity.--Obey the Fist!! 14:30, April 5, 2010 (UTC)

We had a spate of them a while ago that would vandalize, then come back ~10-12 hours later and hit 2-3 more pages (before being caught). We found that a simple 1 week block made them go away and not return. This was all happening while you were doing your thesis play. Ergo, the behaviour of immediate block, and a simple "screw off". Late Reply

I wanted to point out this, vs As you can tell the xmen series out grossed every star trek film excluding the most recent reboot, When I said Patrick Stewart gained more success in the X-Men movies then he did in the Star Trek ones you undid my edit and left a message to the effect of "What you think doesnt matter". As You can see they were more successful but here I taught articles were supposed to be true information which I tried to express and you disregarded based on your opinion. Anyway I dont edit anything on here anymore (pretty much because of you) so you wont need to undo anymore of my attempts to improve this wiki. ( is what I am referring to. Thanks for making me feel welcome.-- 00:44, May 7, 2010 (UTC)

I am not Shran, but he is correct. Yes, articles ares supposed to be true information, but this is a Star Trek wiki, not wikipedia. We're not here to document information not having to do with Trek. You may be correct about the numbers, but there are other ways to measure success aside from box office reciepts, that is why it is your opinion that such information means Stewart had more success with X-Men.
No one has asked you not to edit, or desires it, but edits here are best when they are in keeping with our mission here. If you wish to learn about it, we can help.--31dot 02:08, May 7, 2010 (UTC)
The first paragraph of an actor's article on MA establishes the Trek character that person played and the episodes/films in which he appeared. What you did, 109.255, was remove the relevant info stating that Stewart played Picard in the Star Trek films and replaced it with information that was not yet relevant. His role in X-Men is described later in the article; the first paragraph explains why this person has a page on a Star Trek wiki. The article in its current state is saying that Picard is best known for playing Jean-Luc Picard in TNG and in four Star Trek films -- and this is undeniably true, no matter how much the X-Men films earned at the box office. (Box office numbers, for the record, are often irrelevant in these cases.) I'm sorry my reversion made you decide not to edit anymore, but my statement was essentially correct: you replaced relevant, Trek-related information with irrelevant opinion in a paragraph describing an actor's Trek work. --From Andoria with Love 02:42, May 7, 2010 (UTC)
I accept that I changed the layout in changing the opening paragraph I just feel and its not based souly on box office numbers. (Even when Patrick stared in Hamlet there was a notice saying he would not sign any star trek or x-men merchandise. I think it is wrong to state that he is most well known for his film roles in star trek, obviously he is known for his tv work as Jean-Luc Picard however I think the x-men films reached a wider audience then his trek films. Its not so much someone reverting my edit, I've been on Wikipedia for a few years, its the snide dismissive comment that was left without any sort of follow up. Thanks for the reply.-- 02:42, May 9, 2010 (UTC)
Well, the paragraph is essentially saying, "He is best known for playing Jean-Luc Picard, whom he played on Star Trek: The Next Generation and its feature films." We could reword it that way, I suppose. Also, a line indicating his role in the X-Men films could be added but without the removal of other info; I'll go ahead and do that after this comment. As for my comment when reverting your edit, I don't *think* I was intending to be snide (though it could have been at a time I was tired, moody, angry, etc.); looking at it, though, I can see how it can come off as such, and for that I apologize. What I really meant by it though was that you replaced a Trek credit with a non-Trek credit, which shouldn't be done on a Trek wiki. I should have made my comment clearer and less spiteful-sounding; my apologies for that. --From Andoria with Love 16:00, May 8, 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for that, I appreciate you taking the time to listen to me. I didnt mean to come off as an ásshole or anything, I just felt annoyed ya know. Maybe I will contribute some more here after all. Hehe. -- 02:42, May 9, 2010 (UTC)
No worries. You didn't come off like that; you came off as irritated, which you had a right to be given the way I wrote my comment. I'm glad you're considering making further edits. I'll try to be more clear and less snide in my future comments. :) --From Andoria with Love 04:51, May 9, 2010 (UTC)

Could use some help

You were the first person I thought of.

I'm stuck on part of the renaming process for a page. I corrected "Constitution class (alternate reality)" to "Starship class (alternate reality)" but I can't figure out how to get all the pages linked to the original to update their linkage. Does each have to be manually updated or is there a batch process that can handle this? It's a LOT of links. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Capt Christopher Donovan (talk • contribs).

I was about to leave a message on your talk page Donovan, but I'll bug Shran instead. We need a citation for your changes first, such as a picture or production source saying it was a Starship class. - Archduk3 23:03, May 24, 2010 (UTC)

I'm going to post this to the article talk page, so poor Shran's can get a rest. - Archduk3 23:24, May 24, 2010 (UTC)
Captain Donovan: First off, great find. :) Secondly, to answer your question, if you don't want to change all the links manually, there are users who have bots which can do the process for you. Among those who have bots are User:Gvsualan, User:Sulfur, User:Cid Highwind, and User:bp. You'll probably have better luck getting a hold of Sulfur, the others don't seem to be around too often. There are others with bots, I just can't think of them all. --From Andoria with Love 04:00, May 25, 2010 (UTC)

long time no type

Jordu Schell - I made this quick article but can't confirm his accomplishments other than his word. See Talk:Jordu Schell. — Morder (talk) 04:46, May 27, 2010 (UTC)

Hi, Morder! Given Mr. Schell's credited experience in other films, I'm inclined to believe that what he says is true. He has Star Trek VI listed on his resume, as well, and he seems to be fairly well sought-after in Hollywood (Avatar, 300, Chronicles of Narnia, Hellboy), so I doubt he would lie on his online resume. I think the info is good. :) --From Andoria with Love 04:27, May 28, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I kinda figured that - but I figured someone else who could do more research would know more than me. Yes, he has an incredible resume - really awesome to watch him work too. — Morder (talk) 09:22, May 28, 2010 (UTC)

I figured you figured that, but I figured I would figure in what I figured so we could figure things out. Or something. Anyway, I did do some research and couldn't find anything beyond his resume and YouTube channel which link him to Star Trek VI. I could ask Barney Burman to confirm, if you want. He worked on Star Trek VI and also went uncredited. I'm figuring they at least met during production. --From Andoria with Love 10:38, May 28, 2010 (UTC)

Nah, I'm sure this guy did what he did when he did it or else someone might have called him out on it. I can't imagine someone with the credits he has lying about a tiny part of production of film 6. Anyway...I guess that's clear for now. Thanks :) (Btw, check your email) — Morder (talk) 10:59, May 28, 2010 (UTC)

Needing help!

Hi there,

I know this is not the right place for this but I could not find any other possibility to contact you. My name is Marina, i am a 24 yeald old art student from Germany and I m doing a master work about the storyboards of "the birds". I found out that Harold Michelson did them and I have to include this in my work of course, but the only source about Michelson I got is the wikipedia article. Could you please give me some hints about books dealing with the biography of Michelson?

My E-Mail adress:

Thank you very much ;)!

Hi! You may want to check Michael Rizzo's The Art Direction Handbook for Film, which makes references to Michelson and also includes some pictures of his artwork. I'm not sure if it will give you specifically what you're looking for, but it is worth a look. Marcie Begleiter's From Word to Image: Storyboarding and the Filmmaking Process also seems to reference Michelson. If you're just looking for a source stating that he worked on The Birds, the obituary which the Art Directors Guild wrote for him mentions that film among his credits (you can find that here). Also, the Collector's Edition DVD for The Birds seems to includes a documentary called "About the Birds" which features an interview with Michelson. That's all I can find, though. I hope this helps. Good luck! :) --From Andoria with Love 14:58, July 20, 2010 (UTC)

So I started a new job a few months ago and I happen to mention that Klingon Opera story I posted to the news at work...turns out my boss is a huge star trek fan...and he even appeared in the episode DS9: "Apocalypse Rising" as T'vis...I would love to add his name to the site as he's not currently listed but he asked me to keep it under my hat...he seems embarrassed by it. But interesting none-the-less. :) — Morder (talk) 05:20, August 13, 2010 (UTC)

Interesting, indeed! Nothing to be embarrassed by, though. Try to convince him to let you reveal his name. Not to the point where it gets you fired, of course. If he doesn't, no biggie, and it's still cool regardless that you're actually working for someone who appeared on Trek. Congrats on landing the new job! :) --From Andoria with Love 11:46, August 13, 2010 (UTC)

Possible bug

I don't know if you're the one to talk to, but here goes. MA's pop-up menus (the "MORE" menu at the top and the four menus in the left sidebar) seem to be broken. Also, the editing buttons (bold, italic, etc.) have disappeared and the searchbox no longer word-predicts. No other wiki has this problem.– JDspeeder1 20:46, October 2, 2010 (UTC)

That might be related to the javascript not working, which wikia was informed about several times. Since we're the only(?) wiki not a ".wikia" address, I'm think that's the reason we get the short end of the stick on these things. - Archduk3 20:51, October 2, 2010 (UTC)

Hi, Shran.

I don't believe we've met, though I've followed your helpful comments on various subjects. I'm trying to be more useful around here, and I've asked a question about MA's POV policy.

You're a long-time admin who knows a lot about the community and its consensuses (and also seem to be pretty nice – I hope!). Could I get your take on this discussion? I'm afraid otherwise only the ever watchful (and helpful) Sulfur and I will discuss it. I'd really appreciate hearing from you and anyone else you think should weigh in. It's my first time broaching such a serious subject (MA policy)!

Anthony Genovese

I noted that you were having some difficulties with one Anthony Genovese. There are a couple of issues you should be aware of. First, many of the "anonymous" entries responding to you are him. You can easily identify Mr. Genovese's writing style by his repeated use of the words "matter" such as "these important matters" and "here" as in "these important matters here". He tried to mask it, but we could tell! Is he a spammer? Holy Smokes! He is THE spammer/scammer/pariah of the SyFy world in California. He is not allowed in nearly ANY of the conventions because he does not wish to pay AND he causes diversity. He is in arguments all over the web from the IMDB where he is CLEARLY listed under Anthony Genovese. He is also Oscar-35 on the message boards. After nearly single handedly pulling the Variety forums down, Mr. Genovese is just about to be yanked on IMDB due to his repeated and relentless attacks not only on Hidden Frontier's message board, but during any public interaction AT ALL. He was not on the 2009 Star Trek movie. That's a lie to irritate John Whiting. He was not on Minority Report. He was on the set less than an hour and his part was cut. He was not on Wild Hogs. He cleaned up a jobsite and ASSUMED it was the Wild Hog set. Or decided it was. He's lied so much even he don't know what's true any more. At MikCom, he was allowed to show some bloopers he has collected over the years, but only two people showed up to the panel. One was his girlfriend and the other left soon after. He was not invited back. He has not been invited to a convention in decades. He just makes too much trouble. He's been thrown out of clubs. The USS Angeles and the Time Meddlars here in Los Angeles. FYI, not a nice man. The preceding unsigned comment was added by (talk).

  • You not only should have the skill to debate properly but also have a good sense when to agree to disagree - and when to walk away or just keep quiet. I would not use the above anonymous stalker troll poster for a information source anymore than a lay person would go to the tobacco companies for collecting information on the benefits of smoking their product. The smear poster is projecting his actions and weaknesses on an innocent person. This is pure B$ 19:51, August 1, 2011 (UTC)
    • First, my talk page is not a place to post accusations nor is it a place to debate an individual's integrity. Second, this is no longer about whether or not Mr. Genovese is telling the truth or whether or not he's a nice man. It's about the lack of valid sources (news reports, production documents, statements from confirmed production personnel, etc.) which are required to verify his claims. We have not been able to confirm, outside of Mr. Genovese's own word, that he worked on a Star Trek production. There is no need to post smears and accusations against Mr. Genovese as it does not sway us one way or another. It's about one thing: valid sources. That's it. --From Andoria with Love 22:18, August 3, 2011 (UTC)

FYI, when referring to CBS the station, please link to "CBS Television Studios". "CBS" is a disambiguation page. -- sulfur 11:47, January 17, 2012 (UTC)

hey shran. long time no talk, or um edit.

was browsing the site today and realized i was on the site listed as an extra in trek 09. since then i worked on star trek 2, but didn't save my pay stubs like i did the first time so i don't know how to prove that to you guys. also was hoping we could rename the page (Paul Sutherlin Torrez) to just Paul Sutherlin, because that's actually the name i use for extra-ing. anyway, let me know. thanks. Hi. Sorry for the very late response. I've brought up both points on your article's talk page talk page. I don't see an issue with renaming the page, but wanted to follow procedure and bring it up for discussion first. Mentioning your work on Trek 2 also shouldn't be a problem, but we'll see. :) --From Andoria with Love (talk) 11:12, October 16, 2012 (UTC)

Shran, Shran! Comes in a can! How long have you been back? — Morder (talk) 04:55, June 4, 2013 (UTC)

I've been coming on for the last few days, updating articles for actors from the new Trek movies. By the way, you forgot to sign your comment. Who are you again? ;) --From Andoria with Love (talk) 04:54, June 4, 2013 (UTC)
Ah, trying to make me out to be a liar or a fruitcake, eh? Well, your too late, my friend, it's all in revision history! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!! --From Andoria with Love (talk) 04:58, June 4, 2013 (UTC)

Welcome back. Good to see you here again. Tom (talk) 10:53, October 24, 2013 (UTC)

Hiya, Tom! And thanks! :) I'll try to be around a little more often, though it still won't be anywhere near as much as I used to be. --From Andoria with Love (talk) 04:21, October 29, 2013 (UTC)

Lighting Bear

Since you wrote the page for Lightning Bear few years back, and there is now an anon implying all sorts of fun things about us for having it, I figured I should let you know. There are a number of links in the page history after the changes I link to on the talk page that are supposedly suporting the changes this anon wants, but it seems they would rather have a page full of hate instead of simply removing the "lies" we're spreading. Since this anons disposition has been such a delight though, I'm very much inclined to not do anything about this out of pure spite and laziness and just leave the page locked, so I'm hoping you'll take a look at it. I'm sure you have a better understanding of the subject matter between the two of us, and any input would be appreciated. - Archduk3 05:13, October 10, 2014 (UTC)

Yikes... --From Andoria with Love (talk) 09:31, December 17, 2014 (UTC)
I'll send you a message on FB regarding this. Tom (talk) 09:48, December 17, 2014 (UTC)
I may or may not have replied. ;) (No, I did. I totally replied.) --From Andoria with Love (talk) 10:14, December 17, 2014 (UTC)

I suggest a new logo for this wiki. It looks like this:

You are welcome to join us on Discord (our current IRC-->Slack-->Discord). I can't give you a link because each is a unique invite, but when you find it you can find us. Even if just for a min. –Gvsualan (talk) 22:24, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

It keeps telling me the invite link is invalid or expired. :( From Andoria with Love (talk) 23:26, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
I'm on now but there seems to be some connection issues on somebody's end, probably mine. From Andoria with Love (talk) 23:56, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
