Utensil

A utensil was any type of culinary tool used for cooking, preparing, and/or eating food.

In 2371, near the beginning of USS Voyager's unplanned journey through the Delta Quadrant, Neelix became the ship's impromptu chef, utilizing a variety of culinary appliances to cook meals for the crew, as replicator usage had to be limited. Among his utensils were a slotted spoon, a ladle, strainers, and a mortar. (VOY: "Phage", et al.)

According to the script for "Phage", following his conversion of the captain's private dining room into a store room, it contained "various COOKING SUPPLIES – utensils, bundles of vegetables, etc. (other supplies TBD)." In addition, his kitchen it was stated that "there are pots, pans and hot plates, but the pans look more like broken pieces of bulkhead … and the pots look like empty cargo containers cut in half. The hot plates are naked heating elements sitting in metal frames, which smoke and spark occasionally."

In 2024, Benjamin Sisko apologized to Julian Bashir, saying the food line people had run out of utensils. (DS9: "Past Tense, Part I")

In 2369, Mavek chided Jaya for stealing a spoon, reminding her that she knew she wasn't supposed to take utensils from the common area. (TNG: "Frame of Mind")

Also that year, Mullibok asked Kira Nerys to get out the plates and utensils from his cupboard. (DS9: "Progress")
