V-2 rocket model

A model of a V-2 rocket

The V-2 rocket was Hitler's vengeance weapon which he used upon Great Britain in 1944 during Earth's Second World War. Ultimately, however, these weapons were used too late to have any affect on the outcome of the war.

In an alternate timeline, the Na'kuhl fanatic Vosk traveled backwards in time to aid the Nazi forces in their conquests, making the use of the V-2 rocket unnecessary. (ENT: "Storm Front", "Storm Front, Part II")

In another alternate timeline, created by the continued living of Edith Keeler, Germany was permitted to complete its heavy water experiments, allowing them to be first in developing of the atomic bomb. This, together with the V-2 rocket, enabled Germany to capture the world, ultimately erasing the Federation. (TOS: "The City on the Edge of Forever")

In the alternate reality, Admiral Alexander Marcus had a display model of a V-2 rocket on his desk in 2259, along with other historical air and spacecraft. (Star Trek Into Darkness)

Background information[]

The A4 rocket, model 4 in the "Aggregat" series as the German technical classification was for the V-2 rocket, was the first man-made object to reach space. "V-2" (without hyphen in German) was actually the original preliminary designation given to the A4 rocket with the "V" standing for "Vergeltungswaffe", German for vengeance weapon.

Fitting their Nazi theme, the Ekosian missiles were represented by footage of V-2 rockets. This footage was actual historical footage, captured after the war by American forces during their hunt for V-2 technology. Shown was a pre-operational test launch – as indicated by its black-and-white checkered livery for visual speed and distance gauging – at Peenemünde, before that test site was largely obliterated by the RAF in 1944; operational V-2s, handled by the Luftwaffe, bore a camouflage livery. Released afterwards in the public domain, the footage went on to arguably become the best known one of an actual V-2 launch, and has been featured in countless documentaries dealing with the subject.

Marcus' display model was, along with the others in his collection, especially manufactured for use in Into Darkness by prop replica company Quantum Mechanix in return for the license to produce high-end prop replica merchandise. The models were made of mixed media, including plastic and resin, with detailed lettering and graphics on the rockets, all mounted on black bases with felt bottoms. The 15.2" long (with base) V-2 model went up for auction twice, the first time as part of lot 1216 at Prop Store's June 2023 Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction: Los Angeles 2023 auction, estimated as US$4,000 - $8,000, but went unsold at that occasion. The same lot went up for auction again at Propstore's subsequent March 2024 Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction: Los Angeles 2024 auction as lot 1552 with a starting bid of US$100 without reserve, selling this time on 15 March for US$3,750 (including 25% buyer's premium).
