Sisko must keep a strange alien ship with the potential to destroy Deep Space Nine out of Cardassian hands.

Valhalla is a Pocket DS9 novel – #10 in the numbered series – written by Nathan Archer. Published by Pocket Books, it was first released in April 1995.

Summary[]

From the book jacket
Tensions caused by speculation that Cardassia is about to reoccupy Bajor are complicated by the arrival of a strange alien ship. When it's discovered that the crew is dead and the ship is carrying valuable Gamma Quadrant technology, it becomes a sought after prize, which Commander Sisko must fight to keep out of Cardassian hands. Meanwhile, Sisko also finds himself at odds with Major Kira, who believes the ship is Bajoran property.
When the alien ship suddenly seizes control of Deep Space Nine, and the Cardassians move in to try to capture it, Sisko must face off against a shipload of angry Cardassians – and the alien being controlling Deep Space Nine!

Background information[]

  • This is the first Star Trek novel by author Lawrence Watt-Evans, writing under the pseudonym Nathan Archer.
  • According to the Author's Note, the events of this book take place before those in Lois Tilton's novel Betrayal.
  • The novel was originally intended to be released as the fourth Deep Space Nine novel; however, a mixup between author and editor John Ordover, after Watt-Evans broke his hand, led to the release date being pushed back more than a year and a half. (Voyages of Imagination, pp. 234-235)
  • As a result of the delays, Ordover added references to the USS Defiant into the final manuscript, despite the setting of the novel being some time before the starship would be introduced in "The Search, Part I". (Voyages of Imagination, pp. 234-235)
  • Jadzia mentions a previous host called Penzak Dax. The book was written and published before "Facets" established the final number and names of the previous hosts.
