Vanessa Cater (born 31 January 1985; age 40) is a stuntwoman and stunt actress who played stunt roles in three episodes of Star Trek: Picard. She also worked as a stunt double for Madeline Wise in the second season episode "Monsters". She received no credit for her work. [1]
She was born and raised in New Zealand, where she appeared in stage shows alongside her father, celebrated hypnotist and comedian Guy Cater from age 8. After a few brief film appearances, she played one of the main Centaurs in 2005's The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Befriending the stunt people on set, she decided to pursue a career in movie stunts, appearing in Hollywood productions filmed in New Zealand, such as the historical series Spartacus: Gods of the Arena and Spartacus: Blood and Sand (with Cynthia Addai-Robinson and directed by TJ Scott), The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013, with Benedict Cumberbatch and Greg Ellis), and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014, with Benedict Cumberbatch and the voice of Debra Wilson).
She later moved to Los Angeles to continue her stunts career in the United States, where she performed stunts in The Do-Over (2016, with stunts by Zachry Rogers and stunt coordinated by Scott Rogers), Jumanji: The Next Level (2019, starring Dwayne Johnson and featuring stunts by Alyma Dorsey), and The Gray Man (2022, with Alfre Woodard and stunts by Paul Lacovara).
However, most of her resume consists of stunt work on television series, such as Knight Squad (with Jessie Graff and stunts by Katelyn Brooke), S.W.A.T. (with stunts by Tiffany Abney and Amy Sturdivant), Black Lightning (starring Cress Williams), Doom Patrol (with Stephanie Czajkowski, Phil Morris and Mark A. Sheppard), 9-1-1: Lone Star (with Derek Webster and stunts by Linda Kessler), and The Rookie (with Leif Gantvoort and stunts by Dartenea Bryant and Paul Lacovara). She served as stunt double for actress Dani Deetté in the 2021 Marvel series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and performed stunts in the 2022 Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi.
