The Vellorian Mountains were a geographical feature of planet Barkon IV.
In 2370, a Federation probe crash-landed there. Lieutenant Commander Data was sent to retrieve the probe, but was damaged by an explosion. He then traveled over a hundred kilometers (or two hundred seltons in local measurement) to the nearest inhabited village. There some people believed he was an "iceman" living in the Vellorian Mountains. (TNG: "Thine Own Self")
