Viterian was a Kobheerian male who served as the commanding officer of the Kobheerian freighter Rak-Miunis during the late-24th century.
In 2369, Viterian visited the Bajoran space station Deep Space 9 while transporting a Cardassian passenger later discovered to be Aamin Marritza. (DS9: "Duet")
In 2371, Commander Benjamin Sisko used a viewscreen manipulation to impersonate Viterian and disguised the USS Defiant as his freighter, in order to fly into Cardassian space to rescue Major Kira Nerys from the Obsidian Order. (DS9: "Second Skin")

Background information[]
Viterian was played by actor Norman Large in one of his many Star Trek appearances. The authors of the Star Trek Encyclopedia, 4th ed., vol. 2, p. 547-548 were confused about the roles played by Large, stating in the Cast Appendix that he played a Lissepian captain in "Duet" (this role was played by Nicholas Worth in "Progress") and crediting Lesley Kahn with playing Viterian.
As evidenced in the script for "Duet", the Kobheerian captain was initially meant to be female but was changed to be a male in the final cut. [1] The name "Viterian" comes from the script for "Second Skin" which also provides the pronunciation "vih-TAIR-ee-uhn". [2]
The footage of Sisko masquerading as Viterian in "Second Skin" is stock footage from "Duet" with voiceover provided by Avery Brooks. As a result, Norman Large was not credited for his appearance in this episode.
Large's costume from "Duet" was later sold off on the It's A Wrap! sale and auction on eBay. The trousers were previously worn by background actress Teda Bracci. [3](X)
