USS Enterprise-D, TNG Season 1-2

Enterprise-D was a ship that was warp-capable.

Warp-capable was a term used to describe any type of spacecraft that was capable of warp drive or transwarp drive.

Such a spaceship was often referred to as a "starship," and it could have been anything from a shuttlecraft to a dreadnought.

In the 33rd century, when Craft learned that the USS Discovery had a warp-capable shuttle in its' shuttlebay, he realized that his homeworld of Alcor IV was in range. (ST: "Calypso")

Warp-capable cultures

When referring to certain lifeforms, the term warp-capable was used to describe any species or culture that was sufficiently technologically advanced enough to develop ships that were capable of spaceflight at warp speed.

The United Federation of Planets considered such cultures acceptable to make first contact with. Any culture that hadn't yet developed the technology, was a pre-warp civilization and as such was protected by the Prime Directive, which was General Order 1, which forbade contact, as there was a danger of cultural contamination. (TOS: "Bread and Circuses")
