Garbage men picking up waste.

Waste, garbage, disposal, or trash were common terms for unusable materials and substances.

On an NX-class starship, almost everything was broken into its molecules and recycled including waste. This was done by the bio-matter resequencer. (ENT: "Breaking the Ice")

On the Federation space station K-7 in 2268, after Montgomery Scott asked Korax to take back an insult that he said about the USS Enterprise being a "garbage scow," he instead rephrased his insult to suggest that Enterprise "should be hauled away as garbage!"
