Wayne Anthony Allwine, MPSE (7 February 194718 May 2009; age 62) was a voice-over actor, sound effects editor, and foley artist, primarily for Walt Disney Studios. He provided additional sound effects editing on Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. He was best known as the third voice of the famous Walt Disney character Mickey Mouse. [1]

In addition to his work on The Final Frontier, Allwine also provided sound effects editing for two films directed by Leonard Nimoy: 1987's Three Men and a Baby and 1988's The Good Mother. His other film credits as a sound effects editor include The Black Hole (1979), Something Wicked This Way Comes (1983), Innerspace (1987, which featured Henry Gibson, Robert Picardo, Wendy Schaal, William Schallert, and Mark L. Taylor), and Alien Nation (1988, featuring Leslie Bevis, Roger Aaron Brown, Jeff Kober, Brian Thompson, and Keone Young). His work on Star Trek V was his last film project as a sound effects editor.

He was also a sound editor on the 1980s television anthology series Amazing Stories, serving under Richard L. Anderson, the Supervising Sound Editor on Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Both Allwine and Anderson, along with seven others, received the 1986 Emmy Award for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Series for Amazing Stories.

Beyond his sound effects editing work, Allwine has been the voice of Mickey Mouse for Walt Disney Studios for over three decades. He first began playing Mickey on The New Mickey Mouse Club in 1977. His first theatrical release as the voice of Mickey was the 1983 featurette Mickey's Christmas Carol. As of 2009, he had done the voice of Mickey Mouse longer than anyone who preceded him.

In 1991, Allwine married Russi Taylor, the voice of Minnie Mouse from 1986 until her death in 2019. They were married in Hawaii and had four children together. Both Allwine and Taylor were named Disney Legends in 2008.

Allwine died on 18 May 2009 from complications of diabetes. He was 62 years old. [2]
