Welsh is a language spoken on Earth.
When the USS Discovery encountered the Sphere lifeform in 2257, what appeared to be a computer virus caused the universal translator to translate the crew's speech into a chaotic cacophony of languages. When R.A. Bryce tried to explain the situation to Captain Christopher Pike, he was translated into Welsh: "Capten Pike! Mae'r gronnell wedi ateb ein croeso ni... a dyma beth ddigwyddodd, BOOM!" (DIS: "An Obol for Charon")
Bryce's statement was captioned as "The sphere answered our hail... and then this happened."
In 2269, while under the influence of the female members of Theela's species, Montgomery Scott sang "Yr Hufen Melyn", a song whose lyrics were in Welsh. (TAS: "The Lorelei Signal")
Gen Rhys' last name is a common Welsh one. Charles Evans' (TOS: Charlie X) last name is the fifth most common in Wales.
