Whale Rescue was one of the holopod simulations presented by Shari yn Yem during the drills she conducted aboard the USS Cerritos in 2381. According to Yem, the simulation was based on the experiences of various other Starfleet crews.
At one point, Ensign Barnes' active score in Whale Rescue was a passing 73%. (LD: "I, Excretus")
The title of this simulation may be a reference to the Whale Probe and the events of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.
