Summary[]
- The adventures of the Starship Enterprise continue in this new ongoing series that picks up where the blockbuster 2009 film left off! Featuring the new cast of the film, these missions re-imagine the stories from the original series in the alternate timeline created by the film, along with new threats and characters never seen before! With creative collaboration from STAR TREK writer/producer Roberto Orci, this new series begins the countdown to the much-anticipated movie sequel premiering in 2012. Join Kirk, Spock and the crew as they boldly go into a new future! Up first, a drastic new envisioning of "Where No Man Has Gone Before."

Background information[]
- The story for this issue (and issue #2) is an adaptation of the Star Trek: The Original Series episode "Where No Man Has Gone Before". The issue has no title, but Star Trek, Volume 1 gives it the title "Where No Man Has Gone Before".
- A total of seven covers were produced for this issue. Two basic covers (one by Tim Bradstreet with Grant Goleash, and the other by David Messina with Giovanna Niro), four photo covers of the Star Trek crew, and a signed version of the Bradstreet cover.
- Scotty logged the stardate as "two-two-five-eight-point-two… Five…? Point-five… six…?"
- In 2013, IDW Publishing made a deal with Madefire to turn the issue into a motion comic for DeviantArt and Apple products. [1]
- The events of this issue contradict Kirk's later statement in Star Trek Into Darkness that he did not lose any crew members during his first year as captain of the Enterprise.
