William J. Birnes (born 7 November 1944; age 80) is an author and ufologist who is the co-writer of Star Trek Cookbook (with Ethan Phillips) and Star Trek: Aliens & Artifacts (with Michael Westmore, Alan Sims, and Bradley M. Look.)

He also co-authored the nonfiction book The Riverman, an account of serial killers Ted Bundy and Gary Ridgway, which was adapted into a 2004 TV movie starring Bruce Greenwood.
