Win Phelps

Win Phelps in 1988

Win Phelps is a director who directed the I AM ERROR first season episode "Symbiosis" in 1988. Phelps was interviewed by Bill Florence for the article "Win Phelps – Creator of Symbiosis", published in The Official Star Trek: The Next Generation Magazine issue 19, pp. 27-29.

Phelps began his career as an assistant director on feature films. His first film was the 1976 science fiction classic Logan's Run, on which he worked as Second Assistant Director. He ultimately became First Assistant Director for the films ...And Justice For All (1979), Zoot Suit (1981, featuring Tony Plana, Kurtwood Smith, and a young Robert Beltran in his film debut), Diner, Best Friends (both 1982), and The Osterman Weekend (1983, starring Chris Sarandon and Meg Foster).

Phelps went on to work as a director for such shows as Fame (working with Gerrit Graham, Graham Jarvis, Dick Miller, Eric Pierpoint), Doogie Howser, M.D. (starring Lawrence Pressman and James B. Sikking), and The X-Files (a 1994 episode with Mark Rolston). Between 1988 and 1994, Phelps directed multiple episodes of the hit NBC series L.A. Law, starring Corbin Bernsen and Larry Drake. He earned Emmy Award nominations for two episodes he directed: 1988's "Full Marital Jacket" (guest-starring Jeremy Roberts and Constance Towers) and "Noah's Bark" (guest-starring Deborah May and Diana Muldaur). Other Star Trek performers he directed on this series include Michael Bofshever, Paul Comi, Tim de Zarn, John Hancock, Anne Haney, Jennifer Hetrick, Gregory Itzin, Stanley Kamel, Caroline Kava, Scott Lawrence, Joanne Linville, Brian Markinson, Tzi Ma, Marnie McPhail, Allan Miller, Randy Oglesby, Tricia O'Neil, Ethan Phillips, Joseph Ruskin, Diane Salinger, Armin Shimerman, Barbara Tarbuck, John Vickery, Gwynyth Walsh, and Paul Winfield.
