World of Warships is a freemium, massively multiplayer online 20th century naval warfare video game developed and published by Wargaming (aka Wargaming.net).
While the game is primarily based on historical naval warfare, Wargaming is occasionally licensed to (temporarily) utilize in-game elements originating from third-party entertainment intellectual properties in attempts to appeal to the broader gaming community. As of an 11 July 2024 update, the game features licensed crossover content from the Star Trek franchise, primarily Star Trek: The Next Generation. Wargaming had already employed a newly acquired Star Trek brand license for a crossover event with their other flagship military game, World of Tanks, two months earlier.
Star Trek content[]
Two separate Star Trek events were featured in the game during the franchise's game debut in 2024.
Inaugural Star Trek event[]

Star Trek content was added for the first time as part of the temporary "Star Trek in World of Warships" event, which ran from 11 July-7 August 2024.
Available for purchase through various bundles were four special commanders: Jean-Luc Picard, Spock (TNG-era), Gowron and Sela, each endowed with their own in-universe voice-overs. Each commander character also included permanent camouflage (model swaps/skins) for existing in-game historical ships. Camouflage of the USS Enterprise-D was (appropriately) available for the USS Enterprise (CV-6) aircraft carrier (when applied, the historical World War II carrier based aircraft are replaced by Federation attack fighter squadrons as well), an odd-one-out Star Trek: Enterprise-era Vulcan D'kyr-type cruiser for the KMS Gneisenau battleship (not individually obtainable, only as part of an all-inclusive bundle), a Klingon Bird-of-Prey for the HMS Fiji cruiser, and a D'deridex-class Romulan warbird for the IJN Akatsuki destroyer. Required to have them in the player's inventory for the Star Trek customizations, the latter three are standard in-game (historical) ships which can be obtained through regular game play, whereas the (historical) Enterprise concerns a "Premium" ship, only available through purchase. Players could also earn the choice of unlocking either Sela or Gowron through completing in-game missions, though these did not unlock associated ship camouflages.
A free bonus feature offered to all players during the event was the port-of-call option "Vulcanis-A2," based in appearance on Vulcan, where a player's ship was harbored in a (non-canon) sea at the foot of Mount Seleya. The Enterprise-D was featured in low orbit, with the player given the option to toggle between its interactable bridge and the Vulcanis-A2 harbor at the start of each game by clicking on a floating Type 6 shuttlecraft when in Vulcanis mode, or on the viewscreen when in bridge mode.

If Vulcanis-A2 was selected as port-of-call, an Enterprise-D cargo bay became featured as the collection point where reward containers earned or purchased during the game, such as the hereafter mentioned "Premium containers", were beamed in. Both port and bay were removed from the game once the Star Trek event ended on 8 August.
Individual commanders and camouflages (save for that of the Enterprise-D) could also be obtained by chance by buying "STAR TREK Premium containers" (the event's version of loot boxes). Commanders and camouflages earned/purchased during the event were permanently added to a player's inventory. Acquired Star Trek commanders incidentally, are not exclusively beholden to the upgraded ships, but can be reassigned to other ships at an in-game cost, provided they belong to the same affiliation.
Star Trek followup event[]

A followup, equally temporary event was announced on 14 October 2024, involving a plot-line of Vulcan coming under attack from the Borg. [1] Coined "Star Trek Operations" on 28 October, the second Star Trek event ran from 30 October through 11 December 2024. [2]
The event consisted partly of the same elements as the first event. Four new commanders became available in a similar manner, the Borg Queen, Captain Kathryn Janeway, Commander William T. Riker, and Lieutenant Worf. Different this time was that only the Borg Queen and Captain Janeway could be paired with their own ships which were likewise available in a similar manner as those in the first event, the regular play IJN Yamato battleship, and "Premium" ship USS Salem cruiser in their respective Borg Queen "Diamond" and USS Voyager disguises. Riker and Worf were not paired with their own specific ships but to their respective "Pan-Asian" and French affiliations instead, meaning they could be assigned to any ship within their assigned affiliation free of in-game charge. It were these two who were additionally selected as the ship commanders of which one could be earned as player's choice through regular game play by completing in-game missions in the same way as Gowron and Sela previously.
It was the event's second part that introduced the real innovative element in the Star Trek event, as it concerned an actual game modus set in the Star Trek universe. The Star Trek game module replaced the regular temporary Halloween-themed game module, normally featured on World of Warships during the Halloween season. Featured was a three-stage campaign involving the Borg attacking Vulcan, the actual "Star Trek Operations" battle mode. The four ships that had been mere disguise upgrades for regular game play during the previous event, were now "actual" ships in their own in-universe world with their own proper names, to wit, the Enterprise-D, T'Pau, toQDuj (Klingonese for "Bird-of-Prey"), and the D'deridex, each one under the command of their respective commanders as purchased/earned during the first event. Each of the four ships was available on a temporary basis as "rentals" to all players for the duration of the Star Trek event, the Enterprise-D after completing a sequence of in-game missions. The setting was Vulcan for which the scenery of Vulcanis-A2 was usurped along with its non-canon sea. An extra Enterprise-D interior space was added in the form of the captain's ready room to serve as the pre-battle staging area, similar to the regular game play.
The three time-sensitive stages of the campaign consisted of,
- Borg Invasion: The Borg insert war ships on the surface of Vulcan to assimilate key strategic research facilities. Vulcan and other Federation ships along temporarily allied Klingon and Romulan ships are tasked to prevent their capture and fend off assimilated ships endowed with names such as Assimilator and Disruptor.
- Vulcan's Riposte: The Vulcans and their allies are tasked to recapture the assimilated key strategic facilities.
- Queen's Rage: The Vulcans and their allies are now tasked with driving off the remaining Borg and free Vulcan from their presence by preventing their bid to recapture the lost holdings. After the drone ships have failed in their bid, the Queen herself takes part in the battle aboard her ship the Annihilator (the disguise that could be acquired during the second event) which must be destroyed to claim total victory over the Borg. The Vulcan combatants are halfway through the battle reinforced by an additional Federation cruiser force under the command of Janeway at the head of a squadron of "Intrepid"s (the second disguise that could be acquired during the second event).
All the while a Borg cube could be seen in orbit over Vulcan bombarding the surface, but it was only during the third stage that the cube bombardment had to be accounted for during the battle. Both the attacking Borg fleet and the Janeway reinforcements were automated game bots, in the case of the Borg offset by their sheer number. Just as in the regular play mode, (regular) rewards and bonuses (including Star Trek-themed ones) could be earned during play, which players were allowed to keep, but which did not include the "rented" ships (and their in-game upgrades) which were removed from the game at the conclusion of the event, as were the Vulcan(is-A2) harbor and the Enterprise-D cargo bay container collection point.
