Wrestling was a sport in which the participants attempted to grapple, throw, or immobilize each other.
While Jean-Luc Picard was a cadet at Starfleet Academy, he once wrestled a Ligonian wrestler, who he caught "with a reverse body lift and pinned him down in the first fourteen seconds of the match", according to gardener Boothby, who was very much surprised by the feat at the time. Picard stated that it "was all in the legs, from all the running [he] used to do." (TNG: "The First Duty")
Chief Miles O'Brien compared working with the Deep Space 9 computer with a wrestling match prior before uploading data from "Pup". (DS9: "The Forsaken")
Benjamin Sisko was particularly adept at the sport and was the captain of Starfleet Academy's wrestling team when he was a cadet. He once challenged his Vulcan classmate Solok to a wrestling match, but was defeated due to Solok's Vulcan strength, his anger towards him and his inebriation. (DS9: "Apocalypse Rising", "Take Me Out to the Holosuite")
Trajok was skilled in the Galeo-Manada style of wrestling. He and Jadzia Dax often practiced with the style. (DS9: "Playing God")
Joseph Sisko once joked to his grandson Jake that the alligator he used to protect his restaurant was too difficult to wrestle back up to the ceiling each morning. (DS9: "Homefront")
Four professional wrestlers, The Rock, Tommy "Tiny" Lister, Jr., Big Show, and Tom Magee have made guest appearances on Star Trek.
Many of the Trek stunt performers have a background in wrestling, including Gene LeBell, Spice Williams, Rosine "Ace" Hatem, and Elle Alexander.
