Xi was a male Trill guardian in the late 32nd century.
When the USS Discovery traveled to Trill in 3189, Commissioner Vos, Leader Pav and Xi (representing the spiritual community) were eager to meet a returning symbiont and host, a rare occasion after The Burn. While Commissioner Vos was quick to label the Human host, Adira Tal, "an abomination," Xi suggested learning more given how few Trill left were capable of joining.
Though Leader Pav ordered Tal and Michael Burnham off the planet, Xi found Tal and Burnham escaping capture and showed them the way to the Caves of Mak'ala. There, he prepared Tal and later Burnham for communion with the Tal symbiont in the symbiont pools. Once Tal's memories were restored, proving the viability of non-Trill hosts, Leader Pav commended Xi for the great service he had done, impacting generations of Trill to come. (DIS: "Forget Me Not")
In 3190, Dr. Hugh Culber coordinated with Guardian Xi to help reincorporate Gray using the Soong Method. (DIS: "Anomaly (DIS)") Guardian Xi was present by hologram to perform a zhian'tara to transfer Gray's consciousness to a Gray golem. Culber again contacted Xi when the process proved successful, prompting Gray to note that he owed Guardian Xi a hug when they had the chance to meet in person. (DIS: "Choose to Live")
Guardian Xi was part of the Trill delegation at Federation Headquarters for the Multilateral DMA Strategy Assembly. He welcomed the opportunity to accompany Adira Tal and Gray Tal back to Trill and watch over their safety. (DIS: "...But to Connect")
In 3191, when the Discovery visited Trill in search of the Bix symbiont for the next clue to the location of the Progenitors' technology, Guardian Xi refused to let the crew beam down and asked Burnham "what did the fourth point to?" Burnham recognized as being a reference to the poem found on Lyrek and that the answer was Betazoid which satisfied Guardian Xi. He confirmed that Bix was still alive and gave Burnham's team permission to beam down. However, he didn't know anything more than the fact that his duty was to ask the question of whoever came seeking Bix. He later oversaw the zhian'tara to temporarily transfer Jinaal Bix's consciousness into Culber. (DIS: "Jinaal")
