Yaan was a astronomical object in the same region as Sol/Jupiter. Its companion was Oomaru.
In 2285, Yaan's position was displayed on a star chart on the bridge of the USS Enterprise. (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan)
This astronomical object was only mentioned in writing.
The image was taken from page T0:02:07:02 of the Star Fleet Technical Manual by Franz Joseph. The map claimed to depict principal star systems in the Federation. Based on the scale for the chart, Yaan was located slightly less than a parsec and a half from Sol. Yaan and Oomaru were stars in a binary star system.
