El Capitan in Yosemite National Park in 2287
Yosemite National Park was located on the North American continent on Earth. The park was most famous for its scenic beauty, and was the location of El Capitan and Half Dome. Elk, eagles, and Great Horned Owls were among the many creatures to be found in this park.
By the late 23rd century there were 1,200 points of interest in Yosemite. In 2287, upon meeting up with Spock, who had been watching him climb El Capitan for some time, Kirk was flattered that out of all of the interesting things to see in the park, Spock would choose him. In the first draft script of the Star Trek: Enterprise first season episode "Strange New World", it was established that Henry Archer often took his son Jonathan on camping trips to Yosemite National Park.
